I ordered this watch by mistake - it was on sale last weekend for only $59.99 and the rose gold finish caught my eye, and somehow I added it to my intended order. In order to return it I had to open the box and insert the return info "in case the shipping label is damaged" as they put it, so I thought why not and opened the actual Stuhrling Box as well to take a look at the watch up close. I had to admit that the box and packaging was much nicer than I expected for a watch of this price, and it took all of my will power not to remove the protective paper on the buckle or the clear protector on the crystal so I could try the watch on my wrist. I'm pretty sure that if I HAD tried it on, I'd have forgotten all about returning it, because it is a beautiful piece with classic styling.Almost all of my watches are vintage mechanical designs from the 30s, 40s, and 50s, mostly run of the mill Bulovas but there are a few Benrus and other older US made brands in my drawer as well as a few Tissots from the same era. Very few modern watches appeal to me outside of a couple of Citizen models, but the chocolate dial and rose gold finish on this piece nearly hooked me. That almost never happens, for a couple of reasons. First, I like the involvement of a mechanical timepiece; like shifting gears in a sports car, it just feels right to wind a watch each day and to set the time when you haven't worn it in a while. While I know that a quartz regulated, battery powered watch requires no attantion while being more accurate and possibly more reliable, I'd rather have a machine than an appliance the same way that I prefer a Porsche over a Honda. Second, most 'modern' watches try to hard to do too much; when I glance at my wrist, all I'm hoping to learn is where I'm at in my day, not the day of the week or even the date, and definitely not my altitude or my velocity made good or anything else. The fact is that wristwatches are as anachronistic as pocket-watches; both my car and my truck, not to mention my phone can inform me what the date is, how fast I'm traveling, and how long I've been traveling, while my phone can keep track of the time anywhere in the world as well as inform me with alarms at whatever times I wish to be reminded of a task or a chore. My Citizen Blue Angels chronograph with dual alarms, stopwatch and countdown timers, world times, and a few other features I can't remember can do those things too, but why would I choose to mess with those tiny buttons and the minuscule display when the touch screen on my phone, tablet, or dashboard can do all those same things easier and quicker. So, when I glance at my wrist all I want to know is where I'm at in my day, and hopefully see an attractive piece of machinery. This watch is definitely attractive, but elegantly understated, which is not all that common. All I can say is it works for me, and if I do choose to buy a modern quartz timepiece, this will be my first choice.Elegance with style is my comment on the 4 Stuhrling watches I have purchased and every one is just gorgeous. This watch actually made me gasp as I opened the long box and saw it lying in its sunken cavity. The golden flash is very much like the Thai star sapphire and I immediately hit the Amazon site to order another for my son.Unfortunately it was a little too large for his wrist so I ordered a Seiko Solar instead.I have to say that shopping at Amazon has cost me a lot of money since I discovered it but there are big pluses for an old guy like me in that they make buying so simple and efficient that it becomes a pleasurable experience and the variety available simply superb.I thought the Seikos I bought were the best looking watches I had but this one I think tops them in the elegance factor.Go Stuhrling...I love you..!!Stan ChunWellingtonNew Zealand7th April, 2013.I wore this watch out for the first time at night and went to a candlelit restaurant.Apart from my Seiko Sports 100 which is plain black and white, this is the only gold watch that I could see not only the hour and minute hands but also the second hand moving. Most tend to be over shiny and hard to read in both dull and bright light but this beauty is legible even by candle light and my eyes are 76 years old.Apart from that the watch looked just amazing and was glistening from the facetted markers in the golden light. Its good looks puts it in a classier price bracket and stands with the best.SCThis is a really nice, stylish looking Stührling watch with beautiful rose gold trim (looks actually better than in the picture). It has an easy to read date window. So far, it works well and the leather band is comfortable. I know that Stührling didn't use to have the best reputation for its cheap movements, but I read up on this and it appears that they have improved their movements and their quality control. This particular watch also doesn't have a loud ticking noise (some Stührling reviewers mention this for the Acheron model). So, I'd say great price for a handsome watch.Update (May 20, 2015): The leather band has not held up well. It shows cracks and signs of wear and recently, one of the two straps that hold the end of the band broke. Very disappointing, as this can't be repaired. I still really like the watch -- it is my favorite watch -- but the quality of the leather is poor. The watch is a great looking watch... but it HUGE ! (see pictures) Perhaps I have a small wrist, but this thing spans almost the width of my wrist. Also, as you can see by the pictures, I have changed the band. The leather band that comes with it is nice, but here again, it's huge also. The tongue (the part that hangs out past the buckle part), hung out so far it was annoying because it caught on everything. Here again, perhaps my wrist is small, but this strap was much larger than any other watch I have purchased. Again, I like the look of the watch, its a great looking watch, but I feel like a rapper with bling on when I wear it. The new band I bought ((Amazon)Hadley Roma MB3805Y) matches great, and I think adds to the great look of the watch, and its a much better fit also. This will not be my daily go-to watch, but I'll wear it once in a while, as it's more of a conversation piece rather than an everyday wrist watch. The clock get delayed by fiften seconds a day on average. Hence, you have to keep updating the time. Isn't the whole purpose of a clock to keep the time as accurate as possible? Otherwise, I am better off measuring the time by looking at the direction of the sun. Unfortunately, I have just went passed the 30 day return policy. Hence, I am unable to return this item. The good side (and the reason for one star and not none, if that was even possible on Amazon) is that it does look good on your wrist. However, it just does work as a watch! In less than 2 months of owning this watch it has started to systematically stop and start working and the hour hand is no longer in the right position in relation to the minute hand. Essentially for something that cost the best part of £85 I am thoroughly dissatisfied and would like to know how to activate my guarantee to get this situation resolved forthwith.Adam AldousMost surprised at the quality of this watch. Needed a good watch for special event and am so glad i picked this one. Looks good on the wrist bit on the big side for a small wrist like mine but sits well, looks more expensive than what it is a good all round value for money watch.Nice Watch, came Nicely Presented in a Nice Case, and Purchased at a Good Price.!!Keeps losing time........
