I researched watch winders for quite some time before coming across Barrington and their product range. I found with the cheaper winders, and their seemingly more palatable price, you will likely trade away some features/benefits......such as CLEARLY adjustable turns per day (TPD) settings, near-silent operation, quality of finished product, or a warranty from a reliable Western company, together with EXCELLENT customer service. The Barrington is extremely well made, with a beautiful green-glossy piano finish on my example. It does not operate silently, but the sound you hear is VERY quiet (from about 2-2.5 feet away - bed to nightstand where the winder sits - I measured around 33 dBA with an SPL meter - which is around the background level of my bedroom). There is an unobtrusive green flashing light when the actual winding is taking place (there are rest periods). The watch "pillow" is brilliantly simple and easy to use assuming you are using an average mens' sized watch. Just close the strap as if your wrist is large, click-down the "foot" on the back of the pillow, which holds it in place so you can work your watch onto the pillow assembly and center it up. Then, press on the "foot" again, and it will release under spring tension and press straight out and back against the strap with adequate (but not excessive) force to keep the watch centered on the pillow. The pillow itself is held in the winder with two notches on the rotating carrier, and that easily engage/disengage the pillow with a slight squeeze on the pillows "ears." I bought a second Barrington winder in white for my wife, and her watch uses the "FLEX" pillow - which is a firm, dense foam that is used for smaller strap diameters. Works the same, holds the same - just squeeze down the foam and place your watch on the pillow before releasing the foam against the closed strap.Of note during my research of watch winders, the ease in ACTUAL TPD adjustments were especially important to me. From what I've learned, it is important to not overwind and prematurely wear the sliding mainspring bridle in the barrel - I'd rather not replace those parts at service, and the Barrington makes it easy to set the appropriate TPD for any watch to prevent overwinding (research online or contacting the manufacturer of your watch gives the recommended TPD).It seems many cheaper winders DO correctly allow selection of single, or bi-directional rotation, but they lack a clear and easy setting for TPD, or they have excessive TPD modes instead of intermediate TPD modes which could be useful for some watches. You can do math to figure it out (not difficult but inconvenient when different "programs" in cheaper winders are not clearly marked)...….or I had seen some folks buy a smart plug and use it to "program" in the activity of a cheaper winder to achieve a certain TPD......not necessary with the Barrington and its clear rotation direction and TPD knobs - especially convenient if you rotate between watches and want to use the winder while you rediscover a safe-queen with different TPD requirements that you haven't worn for a while. In whole, the Barrington single-winder range gives you a wide choice of colors to satisfy quirk or room decor, beautiful finishing and quality, near silent/unobtrusive operation, choice of optimal "pillow" for your watch(es), easy and secure mounting/dismounting of the pillow, easy to use directional and TPD setting knobs, the ability to "daisy-chain" additional winders on a single AC adaptor as needed, and stellar customer service (I needed the Flex pillow for my wife's watch, and it was a pleasure to interact with Barrington Customer Service). The price is a little more, but worth the quality and features if you're trying to take care of a nicer watch(es). Don't spend money on this Barrington for your only watch, a Seiko5....but if you have a few to several nice Swiss watches or nicer Seikos, they can take turns on this winder (or several daisy-chained together) as you enjoy wearing your collection.I purchased this watch winder specifically for use with my Rolex DateJust that i received as a gift for my 40th birthday. I wanted a great looking watch winder, that would keep the watch perfectly on time. I keep the watch on my night stand next to me, so having a winder that does not make much noise, but is also effective was important to me. I have had this winder for about 4 months now and have nothing but high praises for it. The winder looks great. I got it in the blue color witch nicely matches with the dial color of my watch. The winder also is completely silent and has specific settings for my specific watches which you can easily look up on the Company's website. I wear my Rolex only on special occasions, so I wanted to make sure the watch was kept wound, but also at the right specifications as to not ruin any of the automatic winding mechanics. So far so good as the watch has kept perfect time. The winder goes on occasionally throughout the day and is very quiet. I also want to point out that the price point for this watch is really good. There are many other companies with an inferior product at a higher price point. This price is just perfect. My search for the right watch winder for me is over, after I bought this Barrington winder. Actually I bought 4 of them.My favorite part of these watch winders is the flexibility to daisy chain them together, allowing you to only use 1 wall outlet regardless of whether you have 1, 2 or 4. They come with an additional cable to send the power out from one unit to another, no additional purchase necessary. This flexibility also means that if 1 of the 4 were to fail, that single unit could be replaced, instead of the whole unit. The winders are very quiet, such that the 4 of them I have are on my night stand and aren't a bother at all when sleeping. No, it isn't as quiet as my Wolf, but depending on the Wolf model you're looking at these are half the price. Especially if you start considering 4 watch winders. The winder is stylish in a modern sense; simple, clean and in a number of different colors.I have purchased 3 Barrington Single Watch Winders and have them neatly stacked on my dresser. They are very quiet and do not disturb my sleep in the least. Also, the variety of TPD settings, for me, is an indispensable feature. I start by following the manufacturer's guidelines, but ultimately trial and error wins the day; so a little patience here is needed. Plus, 2 cushion sizes are available - so those with smaller wrists like me - are accommodated. Truly, I am more than satisfied with Barrington and wouldn't hesitate to purchase another, if the need should arise. The workmanship and quaility is outstanding and customer support is top notch too. I ordered the standard cushion but I realized I needed the flex cushion and so I reached out to Barrington. With a day Lisa reached out and offerred to mail me a replacement flex cushion. I will definately buy another winder when my watch collection grows. Many thanks! This winder was a pleasant surprise in terms of it aesthetic and build. Quiet, functional, but mostly it has an understated elegance that I find appealing compared to other premium winders. I am very happy with my purchase. One note, for those with larger wrists (above 8 1/2"), there is some minor challenge with securing the watch to the pad while winding, but these are easily addressed and do not affect the functionality.Really nice winder. Well made, quiet, love the color options. Excited to buy another. This is my third watch winder and the other two just didn't work. This winder has a nice range of winding options that worked great on my Breitling. It is quiet and reliable. The craftsmanship is great. You can't go wrong with this winder. My latest watch purchase wasn’t keep good time on one of my old watch winders, I can only think that it’s the movement pattern so I spent a lot of time researching a new winder. The Barrington made it to the shortlist, my only concern being was it’s “bargain price” is it too good to be true? Other reviews persuaded me to take the plunge and I’m glad I did. It’s a beautifully made quality product that has the number of turn adjustments I was looking for, the one it replaced only has an increase / decrease type dial to adjust the number of movements so its guess work. The Barrington is almost entirely silent in operation and the watch cushion is very easy to remove / install. The added bonus is its a British made product, well most of it is anyway so well done Barrington. I will certainly be buying another very soon.I believe in the saying that “you get what you pay for”. This a truly fantastic bit of kit, the build quality is second to none. The motor is very quiet indeed and I am sure this product will last for many years to come .I have heard of people buying cheap winders that have only lasted a matter of months so that can be false economy . I am so pleased with this one that I will purchase an other when I buy my next automatic watch. It is worth mentioning that I needed to order a smaller cushion as I failed to tick the correct box when ordering . The after sales service was brilliant ,it was posted out the same day and I received it the next day. So buy British ,receive the quality and service you expect and know there is someone at the end of the phone ( or email) to help you if like me you need advice. It's quiet for the price, very quiet and it handles even very heavy diver's watches brilliantly. The padded and spring loaded watch cushion means that your watch is held in place properly and tightly but not so much as to risk marking or damaging it. The settings are simple and easy to use. The pass through power feature is invaluable as you can chain multiple units from one original power source. If you're unsure about getting this over one of the cheap Chinese winders, please spend a little more. This winder is excellent and very much worth the extra £40-£50 over comparable Chinese winders.A month ago I purchased two of the much-promoted Chinese winders that appear near the top of the Amazon search. They were £65 each and seemed well made. Within 2 weeks one of them stopped working and I now see that reviews mention unreliability. I realise that cheap winders are a false economy and have purchased the Barrington winder. It's very solid and well made and is running beautifully. Worth every penny. I found that the watch carrier was a bit large for my watch/wrist size and phoned Barrington who were very helpful and are sending a smaller insert, free of charge. That's proper Customer Service from a UK based company. I now intend to save up for the Barrington 2-watch winder.Update: smaller watch carrier arrived promptly from Barrington. Free of charge. Fits my watch perfectly.I am new to automatic watches and even newer to winders... There are quite a few to chose from and at very different prices. First thing I did was asking the manufacturer of my watch what characteristics the winder should have. At least 1000 RPD (rotations per day) they told me. I checked the very cheap winders and the very expensive ones. The RPD parameter is of course important but the ease of use, extremely low noise are equally important. I finally selected this one because of other reviews and because of the excellence of the customer service experienced by others. When I placed my order I immediately received a message asking whether it would be a problem if I had to wait a couple of days before the winder was shipped because the European plug was out of stock. That was the first good surprise: ordering from a foreign country (Belgium) I planned to use my own power supply anyway. The second good surprise was that despite what the description of the winder stated on Amazon, the maximum RPD is not 1000 but 1950 instead, making it even more flexible. The third good surprise is that you can not say that this device is quiet. Actually, even a few feet away, you can simply not hear it functioning.A very good purchase...
